Cycle Steps
1. From London to Chelmsford fairly difficult as we didn't find many scenic routes and loads of traffic on the routes we did take. Tired out at Chelmsford so took a train to Witham and cycled through to Maldon. Lovely little town and a great place to rest our heads and legs in a comfy bed and breakfast - all in all approx 7 hours cycling - inc getting lost/ taking the wrong turning twice for about 30 - 60 minutes. Next morning we headed out from Maldon - Gouldhanger, Tollshunt D'Arcy (lovely little town/ village) - Abbington Reservoir - Layer-de-le-Haye, Colchester - Greenstead- Elmstead Market (from Colchester this wasn't a pleasant cycle route so we detoured from Frating Green through to Thornington (beautiful route) - St Osyth - Clacton-on-Sea. Day 2 approx 6 hours cycling. Overall a great adventure, but better preplaning next trip - stick to small roads and head out for the villages as these parts of the journey give you the most energy as the beauty is breath taking. A fair amount of small hills throughout the route. Ice-cream on the beach to celebrate and a 1,5 hour train back to London Liverpool Street (bikes and people snoozing happily on route home)
