Cycle Steps |
1. This is a part on road with a little off road paths along the west highland way. As a good stretch of several miles is on slightly rough paths its not suitable for narrow tired racing bikes but OK for everything else. The route starts at Giffnock Railway station and proceeds to Pollock Park along a quiet cycle path opposite the park and over the squinty bridge via Kelvingrove , up Byers Road and out of Glasgow along Maryhill Road to Milngavie and on to the West Highland way which begins there it turns off the west highland way inside a forest and heads towards Aberfoyle, where there are lots of Cafes and trendy shops to browse. You can turn right towards the Trossachs or turn back onto the A81 and follow it to Callander where ther are more cafes etc to rest and relax in. After that its a relatively short ride (11 miles to Dunblane to catch a train home. If you are feeling energetic you can take the return trip to Giffnock by bike via The Campsie fells past the Lake of Menteith to Kirkintillock and return via the Forth and Clyde Canal. |
