Cycle Steps |
1. This is a route which predominantly sticks to country lanes and is good for a short winter ride on dry days.it also averages 5 miles between pubs so you earn your pints as you go.
Leave Faversham Railway Station, cross the A2 via Salters Lane and turn left onto a bridlepath. This leads through a few orchards, across Selling Road, before turning right out onto the country lanes heading towards Selling. Cross back over Selling Road and after a short distance turn left towards a farmhouse marked with a bridleway and cycle path. This section takes you off road for about 500yrds before turning right onto Featherbed Lane. The next section is again on country roads and is quite undulating, particularly at Hogbens Hill. From here bear left and then right until you reach Grove Road where you turn left and continue to the Perry Wood Crossroads. Turn right passed The Rose and Crown (if you have the willpower) and fortunately the next section is virtually all downhill continually bearing left at the junctions onto Soleshill Rd and down onto the main A252 Canterbury Road. Turn left and ride along the main road for about 1km before turning right onto Pickledon Lane. Unfortunately the track through the fishery is off limits to cyclists so you have to continue until Thruxted Lane on the left. This leads into Bobbin Lodge hill and into Chartham. Continue through the village where it is worth stopping off at the Artichoke PH. if you want to delay your stop then pick up National Route 18 which is clearly marked and follows the River Stour into Canterbury City centre. The last section takes you on to what can be busy roads around West Gate but is rewarded with a pint from the microbrewery within The Foundry P.H. Afterwards you can make your way to Canterbury East Station and make a short journey back to your start point at Faversham station. |
