1. There is no train station at Devizes - but it is only 14 miles from Pewsey where currently all the services are the HST 125 with dedicated cycle storage.
A relatively easy route apart from a bit of a hill near Devizes, this route take you along some nice quiet country lanes. Not much traffic to bother you, but plenty nice vista's to Salisbury plain to the south and the edge of the Marlborough downs to the north. Pewsey Vale is an AONB and a much undiscovered gem. Pretty villages with thatched cottages along the route, with plenty of wildlife if on a leisurely ride.
Devises is a nice market town, although the traffic can get a bit intense. Main road into Devizes has an on-road cycle path, that whilst not convincing in its usefulness, does allow easy passage past queueing vehicles.
Pewsey is a quaint little village. A couple of good pubs in which to slake any thirst after a ride. Village can look shut by late saturday afternoons, but Co-op is almost always open as are the Crown Inn and the Royal Oak. |
