| 1. This route starts off on cycle paths and on to nice country roads until heading in to the forest of Ae. Theres a hard long uphill climb on forest road. 12 miles in total on forest road so quite hard work. Down to Moffat is all downhill on tarmac so a great relief after previous section. Nice cafes in Moffat for a well deserved bacon roll :-) then back along main road until turn off for Lochmaben. This road is a lovely country road, no big hills, reasonably flat. Past Lochmaben has one long uphill section but gradual and not too steep. Then its downhill to Dumfries.
