Cycle Steps |
1. We start out on route 21 down a well surfaced bridleway towards Horley through the country, enjoying some nice views across farmland and then on through Brook Wood, catching a glimpse of the perfectly manicured Langshott Manor. here we have a choice of adding a 1.3 mile extension to reach the site of Thunderfield castle. Thought to be a 'ringwork' (early medieval castle), Thunderfield probably dates from the 12-13 C and was built by the de Clare family of Norman lords. It is best viewed in winter as there is a lot of tree cover. We can't see a great deal but the remains of the moat are clear! If we choose not to extend we travel a short distance along Smallfield Rd. From there we turn North alongside the M23, past fields and along quiet lanes, including one long, steady but mild climb, with a final push at the top! A combination of bridleways and roads of approximately 7.5 miles. May be muddy. Not suitable for road bikes. 7.5 to 9 miles. One hill. Some stony and/ or muddy tracks (mud track can be avoided if necessary) Plotted by Antonia at Bikefitsurrey.co.uk |
