1. A Challenging route with some fantastic views on the way. This is my home to home route so if you're living near Shalford you can modify slightly. You start by riding through Chilworth and Albury on relatively undulating roads before taking a right up a short but tough climb into the Surrey Hills, once at the top you take a left onto park road which when followed takes you to the crossroads of Shere, Peaslake and Ewhurst. We now take the Hound House road which is a long road to Ewhurst. There is a tough 1.5 mile climb in the centre of this road followed by a very fast descent towards Ewhurst. After passing Ewhurst we take a left turn and then proceed to go back on ourselves up the Holmbury road, probably the toughest climb of the route, once this has been achieved there is another rapid descent which takes us to Peaslake. From here we follow the road back to the Hound house road which we do for a second time. This time round we follow the road to Ewhurst and once down this road take the right towards Cranleigh. From here the route is generally flat and undulating. A great reward after all the tough climbs! Once we get to Cranleigh we take the back road towards Guildford via Shamley green and Wonersh, finally ending up back in Shalford. |
