1. The first 15 miles or so (from Halstead to Chappel) is fairly easy to ride, being reasonably flat with only a few minor hills. The second stage of the route, from Chappel to Halstead, is much shorter (8 miles) but presents several steepish slopes, especially entering and just after leaving Colne Engaine. There is one point, just before crossing the A120, where the road becomes a footpath for about 100m. For refreshments and pit stops, try the Dutch Nursery in Coggeshall and the Swan in Chappel. A very pleasant ride overall. |
