| 1. The day begins with a relatively easy ride heading into Callander experiencing the terrific views over the hills. After Callander the journey is on a traffic free path along the shores of Loch Lubnaig as we keep to the National Cycle Network. Joining the road to Balquhidder you will pass the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor before re-joining what was once a railway line through the spectacular Glen Ogle. I have been reliably informed The Glen Ogle viaduct is one of the true highlights of the National Cycle Network anywhere in the UK.
We cycle into Killin which is a village magnificently sited around the scenic Falls of Dochart before cycling along the bank of Loch Tay on a quiet road with as many walkers and cyclists as cars. The Loch is the largest loch on Perthshire a glorious stretch of water; at some 14 miles long. We leave the loch behind and cycle into the Tay Forest Park (advertised as one of Scotland’s finest forests). The final miles are spent cycling next to the River Tay. Eventually we enter the delightful Victorian town of Pitlochry nestling in the Perthshire Highlands amidst some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe. The town is situated on the River Tummel, surrounded by scenic mountains, lochs and forests.
