Cycle Steps | |
A circular route encompassing a fifteen mile stretch of the South Downs Way, mostly off-road. It uses a lot of tracks from the official South Downs way route, so the quality is high. Start from the quiet village of Chilcomb, within a couple of minutes you are rising high above the South coast. Follow the South Downs way as it makes its way up and down the hills until you reach the village of Exton. Continue along the South Downs way until you reach the top of Winchester Hill Fort (the hardest climb on the route). At this point, leave the SDW and head north along the small country road to West Meon. Leave West Meon by going through the churchyard in the West of the village. From here, follow the bridleways through the fields and woods to another village called Cheriton. Leave the village and head West until you hit the SDW again. From here, just retrace the first couple of miles that you did to get back to the start. | |
