This is the route based on the charity event organised by FOSS (Friends of Strathaven Scouts). I never managed to do it this year, but speaking to someone who did I obtained the route.
Starting at Strathaven Cross head past 'Weavers' on your right and follow the road to the first fork. Take a left and head up the hill, passed the school on your right.
This takes you onto the backroads to East Kilbride, after leaving the housing estate, pass a side road right and take the next left (marked with a cycle route sign). Head down to the T-Junction and turn right.
Keep cycling along this road, depending on what time of day you go, you may get held up by cows moving fields. After a couple of miles you arrive at a cross roads.
Cycle straight through these cross roads and take a left as the roads forks beside Mossmulloch forest. This is a lovely stretch of road with very few cars on it.
Cycling for another few miles take the first left at Fore Hareshaw, passing houses on either side of you. Shortly after you arrive at a T-Junction, take a right.
This takes you down a twisty road leading to Drumclog. Once you arrive in Drum Clog cross the main road(A71) and carry on up the hill. Take the next left crossing over the river. This takes you onto a road, that once again is not often used. The few times I have cycled along in the past the quality has not been brilliant, but I would still say good enough for roadies, just watch the holes.
Stay on this road for another few miles passing signposts for Gilmourton on your left, eventually you should come to a short steep climb with a side road right. Take this.
Immediately after take side road left to avoid entering someones farm. Shortly after you arrive at a cross roads with the B743. Go straight over these but take a right at the next crossroads.
Following this road round you eventually arrive in Sandford. Sandford is just a stones throw away from Strathaven, so if you have had enough at this point, you can easily take a left when you reach Sandford. Although there is a nice big long steep hill to go up :D
Part 2 starts in Sandford.
