| Leaving Ushaw Moor on B roads via Bear Park. At A167 join cycle path alongside road to Chester Le St. Turn off A167 and follow Durham Rd into Chester. Cycle thru town centre onto newcastle Road and join Durham Rd Birtley. Continue to cycle North thru Birtley until reach junction with A1. Use pathwasy to miss out roundabout and head past the Angel along Durham Road heading into Gateshead. Turn off Durham Rd onto B1426 to avoid Gateshead Highway and head for Tyne Bridge. Once over Tyne bridge head up Pilgrim Street into centre of Newcastle and continue up Northumberland St to Haymarket. To avoid the underpass/central motorway, use cycle path past civic centre to windsor terrace and Brandling Park. (Excellent pub down side street here). Now follow Great North Road thru Gosforth avoiding High st traffic by using Moor road, before rejoining North Road just by Regent Centre. A couple more miles up North Road turn onto Polwarth Drive to cut thru the estate, before emerging onto Brunton Lane, over the bridge over A1 then follow road round into Great North Park. |
