Cycle Steps
From New Brancepeth take the back road toward Esh Winning dropping down Broadgate and over the ford (inaccessible in or after bad weather!) Then turn left at the crossroads to Esh Winning, straight through the village and on to Waterhouses turning right at the crossroads then immediate left to East Hedleyhope before climbing the 16% bank to Hedley Hill. Turn right at the top and plummet for about 2 miles into Cornsay Colliery turning right at the bottom of the bank and back into Esh Winning. Take the left fork after the church to head back to New Brancepeth finishing with the short sharp climb up Broadgate bank (not signposted but must be at least 15%!) then one last climb into the village.

The route could take one a number of variations as there are a lot of country lanes around here to extend or alter the route and many of them have very challenging hills to them, enjoy!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
The Black Horse at Waterhouses is a 'canny' pub and in Esh Winning there is one of the country's last remaining coal fired chip shops which is smack on route! Awesome countryside, with wooded valleys to ride through and heath covered hillsides and very little traffic.
