| This is a road route, that uses mainly B roads, and has a big climb up Pork Hill, onto Dartmoor, on the stretch from Tavistock to Princetown. The Old Police Station Cafe is a great place to get a coffee. The Plume Of Feathers Inn is also centrally located. High Moorland Visitor Centre is great for information and things to do on Dartmoor. There of Bridleways leading off from Princetown if you fancy heading off-road. A fourteen mile cycle ride around Princetown and Burrator reservoir can be started from here, that uses an old railway track, the track is quite rocky though. See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/outdoors/cycling/burrator_route.shtml Dartmoor can go from a wonderful, clear summers day to sub zero freezing fog within a matter of seconds, so check the forecast before you go, carry a good tool kit and spares, and a map and compass if heading off-road. |
